Meet the Artist

Hello, I’m Jennifer!

I started Glazed Earth Atelier to offer high-quality and unique products...

I find inspiration in my travels, in the shapes of nature, in international food, and in tribal art. I love to mix texture and colours to create artwork that evokes emotions, presence, and energy.

My love for clay started many years ago in my childhood, and for years I collected colourful ceramic mugs and wonky vases. I only started designing my own pottery after taking a five-week introduction course to ceramics in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.

Shortly after that, I moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina - to improve my español - where I discovered a vibrant “ceramics scene” that allowed me to explore this artform, develop my skills, figure out my style, and eventually turn it into Glazed Earth Atelier!

Why clay?

I see pottery as an exploration of the self and of others, my most immense joy is discovering what new rituals my pieces will create or be a part of. Whether it’s a bold sculpture that sits on a mantel, a large mug for morning coffees, or a textured vase for fresh flowers, all vessels can be sources of joy and vehicles of therapeutic expression. I believe that ceramics can also represent storytelling, cultural discovery and empowerment. That is why I prioritize slow-crafted pieces that hold meaning and can be as beautiful and original as they can be useful.

Earth

Clay is basically dirt! Soil from the ground and pieces of the Earth. How lovely! Through this name, I wanted to illustrate my link and adoration for our beautiful planet and all its resources. Check out the FAQ page to learn more about how Glazed Earth Atelier uses natural resources responsibly and gives back to others in the process.

Glazed

As you may have already guessed, one of my favourite parts of making ceramics is the search for the perfect glaze. It feels like creating a magic recipe that will transform in the kiln in -more often than not - highly unexcepted ways. Glazes allow me to be bold with colour combinations and to express the inspiration behind a specific piece through colour variations.

What’s in a name - Glazed Earth Atelier

How long does it take to find the perfect name to illustrate one’s personal creative path? Turns out, a very long time!

Atelier

I am a Frenchwoman after all! Atelier is just another word for an artist’s workshop or studio. Back in the olden days, ateliers were spaces where experienced artists shared their knowledge with students and apprentices. I don’t technically have apprentices, but I do share tips and techniques in the Glazed Earth Journal. I hope it will be useful to those learning ceramics.
